Teacher Awards
The Excellence in Teaching Award is designed to recognise the significant contribution made by an experienced Queensland HPE teacher who has promoted active and healthy lifestyles through quality teaching practices with the school community. This award honours the legacy of Teresa Carlson, ACHPER Fellow.
The Early Career Teacher Award is designed to recognise the significant contribution made by an early career teacher who has promoted active and healthy lifestyles through quality teaching practices with the school community.
The Pre-Service Teacher Award is designed to recognise the significant contribution made by a Queensland pre-service teacher who has completed consistent and outstanding professional experience(s), as well as the promoting active and healthy lifestyles to the school or wider community.
Impact Awards
The Health Impact Award is designed to recognise the significant contribution made by an individual or group to Health programs in a Queensland school.
The Sport and Physical Activity Impact Award is designed to recognise the significant contribution made by an individual or group to sport and/or physical activity programs in a Queensland school. This award honours the legacy of David Keating, past President of ACHPER QLD.
ACHPER QLD President's Award
This highly prestigious award is given at the discretion of the ACHPER QLD President and is designed to honour an individual or group for a significant contribution and/or impact on the HPE profession. The President’s Award* encompasses the greater HPE community and is not limited to HPE teachers. The winner will be presented with their award at the Brisbane HPE Conference. Nominations can be made directly to the ACHPER QLD Executive Officer at [email protected]. Nominations should be accompanied by a paragraph (100 – 250 words) outlining the contribution made by the individual or group.
Honouring members of the ACHPER QLD Community
The Excellence in Teaching Award and the Sport & Physical Activity Impact Award aim to honour the legacy of some inspiring members of the HPE Community.
Dr Teresa Carlson
In 2002 Dr Teresa (Terry) Carlson (ACHPER Fellow) was involved in an accident in Turkey which left her with severe intellectual and physical impairments. Terry had been an outstanding academic with a strong teaching and research profile in the education community. She had been totally committed to promoting Physical Education and supporting HPE teachers. Terry had been State President of ACHPER QLD for three years, was actively involved in organising conferences, and held a post editing our state newsletter. Tragically, Teresa Carlson passed away in 2015.
As a mark of respect to her, the Teresa Carlson Award recognises the significant contribution made by an ACHPER member in the promotion of active and/or healthy living to the education community.
David Keating OAM
David Keating, past ACHPER QLD President, consistently campaigned for recognition of the voluntary contributions made by teachers, administrators and community members in sport, physical activity and health and physical education. Throughout his demanding career in sports administration and governance, David continued to volunteer his time to keep children and youth involved in sport and physical activity and has been recognised for his contribution to Sport in Queensland being awarded QSport's illustrious Service to Sport Award and in Australia as a recipient of the Order of Australia Medal.
