Senior Physical Education Masterclass 2022

Tuesday 22 November - Physical Education

The ACHPER QLD Masterclass series has been designed to offer Health and Physical Education teachers a deep dive into the content areas covered in the senior Health and PE syllabuses.

ACHPER QLD is pleased to advise the the 2022 Physical Education Masterclass will focus on Unit 1: Functional anatomy and biomechanics.

Functional Anatomy and Biomechanics Masterclass Synposis
This presentation will look at the biomechanics and functional anatomy syllabus and explore different ways of approaching the subject matter. To achieve this, we will explore common characteristics of success that are assigned to different sports (e.g. speed, agility, strength, power, accuracy) and look at ways of exploring these concepts from a biomechanical or functional anatomy perspective. Such analysis can then be directly implemented in examining performance in the various sporting activities that can be explored as part of the syllabus. I will use the NBA Combine tests as a way of exploring these concepts and provide some examples of different teaching tools that can be used to explore concepts, including hands-on methods and sources for gathering primary data and reputable resources for secondary data.

ACHPER QLD is delighted to introduce Professor Glen Lichtwark from The University of Queensland as the master presenter for this year's masterclass.

Glen Lichtwark is a Professor in the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences. He was awarded his PhD in 2005 from University College London (UK), where he studied the influence of muscle and tendon elasticity on power output and energetics of muscle. He has subsequently worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Royal Veterinary College (UK), Imperial College (UK) and more recently at Griffith University (2007-2009).

Glen is particularly interested in how elasticity in muscles and tendons in the lower leg and foot influence the function of these muscles and what impact this has on the ability to generate force or perform controlled movements.
